1

Atelectasis

card image

collapsed lung (additive= decrease technique)

2

Bronchiectasis

card image

chronic dilation of bronchi, causes increase in lung tissue density (additive= increase technique)

3

Cardiomegaly

card image

heart enlargement causing increase in part thickness (additive= increase technique)

4

CHF- congestive heart failure

card image

heart in failure, cardiac output is diminished. Results in backward failure or increased venous congestion in the lungs, lung tissue density is increased and heart enlarged too (additive=increase technique)

5

Empyema

card image

pus in the thoracic cavity causing tissue density increase (additive= increase technique)

6

Emphysema

card image

Obstructed pulmonary disease leading to damage in air sacs making breathing difficult (destructive= decrease technique)

7

pleural effusion

card image

pleural cavity fills with blood/serous fluid, displacing lung tissue and increasing tissue density (additive= increase technique)

8

pneumonia

card image

inflammation of the lung tissue causing to fill in alveolar spaces. Fluid now has greater tissue density than air present (additive= increase technique)

9

Pneumothorax

card image

Lungs are collapse and air escapes from lung (destructive= decrease technique)

10

COPD-

card image

damage results in swelling/ inflammation inside airways (destructive= increase technique)

11

Pneumonectomy

card image

Removal of 1 lung due to lung cancer/bronchiectasis/congential lung disease/ etc (additive= increase factors)

12

Pulmonary edema

card image

when fluid fills interstitial lung tissue and alveoli, tissue density increases, may lead to congestive heart failure (additive= increase technique)

13

TB- tuberculosis

card image
  • Infection by a mycobacteria causes the inflammatory response, which results in an increase in fluid in the lungs. If the mycobacteria were inhaled, it generally begins as a localized lesion (usually upper lobes), which can spread to a more advanced stage. If the infection reaches the lungs by the bloodstream, it has a more diffuse spread (miliary TB). Increased tissue density results in both advanced and miliary TB. (Additive= increase technique)

14

Aortic aneurysm

card image

A large dilatation of the aorta will result in increased thickness of the affected part. (Additive= increase technique)

15

Ascites

card image

Fluid accumulation within the peritoneal cavity causes an increase in tissue thickness. The free fluid has a unique "ground glass" appearance radiographically. (additive= increase technique)

16

Chrisoses

card image

condition where liver is scarred and permanently damaged (additive= increase technique)

17

Calcified stones

card image

Stones commonly found in abdomen such as gallbladder/kidneys. Calcium may be deposited which increases in effective atomic number of the tissue (additive= increase technique)

18

Bowel obstruction

card image

condition where partial or complete blockage of the small/large intestines (destructive= decrease technique)

19

Ileus

card image

condition where intestine cant push food/waste out of the body because of bowel malfunctioning (additive= increase technique)

20

Acromegaly

card image

overgrowth of hands/feet/face/jaw as a result of hypersecretion of hormones in adult, increase in bone mass (additive= increase technique)

21

Osteomyelitis

card image

Chronic bone infection results in new bone growth at the infected site (additive= increase technique)

22

Hydrocephalus

card image

Dilation of the fluid filled cerebral ventricles causing enlargement of the head, increased thickness (destructive= increase technique)

23

Osteoblastic metastases

card image

spread of cancer to bone resulting in uncontrolled new bone growth (destructive= increase technique)

24

osteochondroma

card image

Tumor arising in the bone/cartilage which increases bone thickness (additive= increase technique)

25

Pagets disease

card image

increase in bone cell activity which leads to new bone growth, results in bone pelvis thickness/spine/skull (additive= increase technhique)

26

Sclerosis

card image

increase in hardening as a result of a chronic inflammation in bone, increasing bone tissue thickness (destructive= decrease technqiue)

27

Aseptic necrosis

card image

The death of tissue (destructive= decrease technique)

28

Carcinoma

card image

Type of cancer that starts in tissue lining then skin and or cover internal organs (destructive= decrease technique)

29

Degenerative arthritis

card image

condition where cartilage cushioning the ends of bones in the joints have been worn and torn affecting the tissue (destructive= decrease technique)

30

Fibrosarcoma

card image

type of cancer that starts isn’t he fibrous connective tissues of the body, is made up of immature cells fibroblasts or spindle cells that grow quick and abnormal (destructive= increase technique)

31

Gout

card image

condition and type of arthritis where there is inflammation in results from excess uric acid in the blood (destructive= increase technique)

32

Hyperparathyroidism

card image

condition where there is too much parathyroid hormone activity in one or more parathyroid glands (additive= decrease technique)

33

Multiple myeloma

card image

Condition where uncommon blood cancer which affects the bone marrow and plasma cells turning healthy cells to abnormal cells (destructive= decrease technique)

34

Osteoporosis

card image

condition where bone weakens and fragile because of bone mass loss (destructive= decrease technique)

35

Osteomalacia

card image

defect in bone mineralization causing decreased composition (destructive= decrease technique)
