located at the base of the brain. The FUNCTION of the hypothalamus is to MAINTAIN HOMEOSTASIS

"Master Gland"

controlled by hypothalamus

Two Parts

Anterior

The front portion

Produces and secretes hormones such as:

  • GH (growth hormone)
  • TSH(thyroid-stimulating hormone)
  • ACTH(adrenocorticotropic hormone)
  • LH & FSH
  • Prolactin
