Which is the correct breakdown of the medical term endarterectomy into its component parts?

card image

end/arterec/tomy

WRONG

Answer: end/arter/ec/tomy

Reason: Endarterectomy breaks into end (inside) + arter (artery) + ec (out) + tomy (cut) = surgical removal of the inside of an artery.

Update: "An endarterectomy is a procedure to remove plaque in the arteries. The correct breakdown according to Chapter 1 is end/arter/ec/tomy (inside/artery/out/incision). This was the correct answer on the quiz. Remember this if you see it on your final. The correct breakdown of the word according to Chapter 9 is end/arter/ectomy (inside/artery/removal).

I will update the scores of the students who had these questions."

Note from Professor

  • Quiz 9 Update

Good morning,

Last week’s quiz had a couple of questions that need clarification based on the fact that most of the students that had these questions didn’t answer correctly. I’ll review questions that less than 30% of the students answer question correctly.

Myocardial ischemia- blockage of blood to heart muscle
Myocardial infarction- death of the heart muscle

Myocardial ischemia leads to a myocardial infarction.

An endarterectomy is a procedure to remove plaque in the arteries.

I will update the scores of the students who had these questions.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns with your quizzes. And of course, please keep up with your assignments.

My best,

Mrs. Cutliffe
