1

Cell Membrane

Cell membrane holds water together inside living cells. Form boundary or barrier, Protect the things in the cell, Gate keeper, and permeability. Cell Membrane are fluid.

2

Permeability

Means some molecules can defuse freely while some molecules cannot.

3

Biological Macromolecules found in the Cell Membrane.

Protein(purple), Carbon (green), and lipids

4

Lipids Membrane

Membrane lipids are a group of compounds (structurally similar to fats and oils) which form the lipid bilayer of the cell membrane.

5

Movement of phospholipid

card image

Lateral movement (side to side, and occurs really fast) and Flip-flop movement (Occurs once per month, one to another membrane)

6

What types of Lipids are found in the cell membrane?

Phospholipids, Cholesterol, and glycolipids

7

Phospholipids

Make up the cell membrane. There are two fatty acids tails attached to each phospholipid and are linear.

8

There are two types of fatty acids tails

Saturated hydrocarbon tails Vs Unsaturated hydrocarbon tails.

9

Different between saturated Vs unsaturated fatty acids tails

Unsaturated fats help to lower blood cholesterol levels whereas saturated fats contribute to plaque formation in the arteries. Unsaturated fats or oils are usually of plant origin and contain cis unsaturated fatty acids. Cis and trans indicate the configuration of the molecule around the double bond.

10

cholestrol

Cholesterol is found in the animal cell membrane especially animals living in cold temperature. The four fused rings
