1

Aim

To investigate the role of acetylcholine in memory formation

2

Method

A lab experiment with a group of lab rats

3

Procedures

Rats were trained to go through a maze and were given food when they go to then end

Once trained, they were then split into three groups

  • group 1: were injected with scopolamine, a drug that blocks acetylcholine from functioning
  • group 2: were injected with physostigmine, a drug that speeds up acetylcholine in the body
  • group 3: control group, so no injection

rats were places back in the same maze

4

Results

Rats injected with scopolamine were slower and made more errors that both other groups

rats injected with physostigmine ran the maze quicker and with less errors that the control group

5

Conclusion

Acetylcholine plays an important role in creating a memory

neurotransmitters, agonist or antagonist
