1
Aim
To investigate if participants can use different components of the working memory model simultaneously
2
Method
Lab experiment (with unknown number of participants)
3
Procedures
Participants were asked to perform two tasks at once (dual task technique)
- a digit span task which had them repeat a list of numbers
- a verbal reasoning task which had them answer true or false to various questions
4
Results
- As the number of digits increased, participants took longer to answer the reasoning questions, but not much longer
- Participants did not make any more errors in the verbal reasoning task as numbers of digits increased
5
Conclusion
- The digit span task made use of the phonological loop and the verbal reasoning task made use of the central executive
- This supports that two components of the Working Memory model can be used simultaneously
