Muslim Empire: scientific and cultural advances - astronomy, geography, and architecture
- interacted without the Muslim empire when they traded
each city-state controlled their own trade and government
- traders and merchants took their knowledge back to Italy and spread to other
- invaders=saw Italian artwork and inspired them
- ideas spread to nations and other nations governments wanted to use the ideas of humanism

- printing press - spread information faster and more consistently through Europe and the rest of the world
