  • tumors, hyperfunction, hypofunction, damage to gland (trauma)

S/S include ?

local- on Brian, can cause visual problems

systemic- vague and slow to progress, personalitiy changes

treatment for pituiatary tumors

transepheroidal hypophysectomy which is the removal of the pituitary gland

POST OP CARE for hypophysectomy

  • neuro checks (making Sure nothings changing; ex: speech)
  • monitor for bleeding
  • monitor for drainage (should be blood/mucus- nasal drip pad will be placed.
  • do NOT want to see clear drainage that would be CHS

acromegaly

  • oversecretion of growth hormone (GH)
  • increase in bone size
  • enlargement of facial features, hands and feet
