Piano Extended techniques

1.

Pizzicato

Plucking the strings with a fingertip or fingernail

2.

Bowing

Using a bow (horsehair or other materials) to draw across the strings, creating a continuous, sustained tone or pitched impuls

3.

Harmonics

Lightly touching the strings at specific points while depressing the corresponding key to produce higher, pure tone

4.

Glissandi

Sliding the fingers across the strings, often from a pre-held chord, to create a gliding effec

5.

Prepared Piano

Inserting objects (felt, wood, screws, etc.) into the piano's mechanism, on or between the strings, to alter their tone

6.

Muting

Placing a hand or another object on the strings to dampen them while playing the keys with the other hand

7.

Percussive Effects

Tapping, slapping, or striking the resonant body, rim, or outer casing of the piano to create percussive sounds

8.

Key Bashing/Forearm Attacks

Using the palm, fist, or forearm to strike the keys, creating a forceful, percussive attack
