Instructions for Side by Side Printing
  1. Print the notecards
  2. Fold each page in half along the solid vertical line
  3. Cut out the notecards by cutting along each horizontal dotted line
  4. Optional: Glue, tape or staple the ends of each notecard together
  1. Verify Front of pages is selected for Viewing and print the front of the notecards
  2. Select Back of pages for Viewing and print the back of the notecards
NOTE: Since the back of the pages are printed in reverse order (last page is printed first), keep the pages in the same order as they were after Step 1. Also, be sure to feed the pages in the same direction as you did in Step 1.
  3. Cut out the notecards by cutting along each horizontal and vertical dotted line
To print: Ctrl+PPrint as a list

Microbiology- Chapter 8- Microbial Genetics

front 1

Genetics is the study of ____________?

back 1

hereditary- it includes the study of what genes are, how they carry information, how they are replicated, and passed to subsequent generations of cells or passed between organisms and how the expression of their information within n organism determines the particular characteristics of that organism.

front 2

The genetic information in a cell is called a __________?

back 2

genome

front 3

A bacterial cell's genomes includes its __________ and ___________________.

back 3

chromosomes (circular) and plasmids

front 4

Chromosomes are _________________?

back 4

structures containing DNA that physically carry hereditary information; the chromosomes contain the genes.

front 5

Genes are __________________?

back 5

segments ofDNA (except in viruses in which they are made of RNA) that code for functional products.

front 6

DNA is a macromolecule composed of repeating units called ____________?

back 6

Nucleotides, deoxyribose and a phosphate group

front 7

Genes code for a specific _______________?

back 7

characteristic or trait

front 8

Single bacterial chromosomes include ____________________.

back 8

chromosome and associated proteins
contains all or most of genes

front 9

The DNA inside a cell exists as __________________________.

back 9

in long strands of nucleotides twisted together in pairs to form a double helix

front 10

Each double helix has a __________-________________.

back 10

sugar-phosphate backbone- an alternating sugar and phosphate group and a nitrogenous base is attached to each sugar

front 11

The two strands are held together by _____________ between their nitrogenous bases.

back 11

hydrogen bonds

front 12

Base pairs always occur in a specific way ____________ and ________________.

back 12

Adenine always pairs with thymine and cytosine always pairs with guanine

front 13

The two strands of DNA are ________________?

back 13

complementary

front 14

The bacterial chromosome is located in the ______________ region

back 14

nucleoid

front 15

DNA is anchored to ______________.

back 15

plasma membrane
