What are the different types of dementia

back 1

Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia and lewy body dementia

front 2

Pathophysiology of Alzheimer's dementia

back 2

involves neuritic plaques (clusters of beta-amyloid protein) and tangles (accumulation of tau protein) in brain tissue, which interrupt neuron signaling, and/or alteration of neurotransmitter

front 3

What is flortaucipr F18 (Tauvid)

back 3

a radioactive imaging drug to estimate the tau protein tangles in adult patients being evaluated for alzheimer's disease

front 4

Assessment used to identify or screen for dementia

back 4

mini-mental state exam (MMSE)

(max score is 30, score <24 indicates a memory disorder)

front 5

Supplements with possible benefit for alzheimer's dementia

back 5

vitamin E (2000 IU daily) and ginkgo

(both of these increase bleeding risk)

acetylcholinesterase inhibitors

front 7

What drugs are acetylcholinesterase inhibitors

back 7

donepezil, rivastigmine, galantamine

front 8

MOA of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors

back 8

inhibit centrally-active acetylcholinesterase, the enzyme responsible for hydrolysis (breakdown) of acetylcholine, this cause an increase in acetylcholine

Razadyne ER

front 12

Brand name of donepezil + memantine

back 12

Namzaric

front 13

MOA of memantine

back 13

blocks NMDA receptors, which inhibits glutamate from binding and decreasing abnormal neuron activation

front 14

Brand name of memantine

back 14

Namenda

front 15

When taking donepezil, what can help decrease nausea

back 15

taking at night

front 16

Which acetylcholinesterase inhibitors comes in a patch

back 16

rivastigmine and donepezil

front 17

If stable on donepezil 10 mg, can switch to

back 17

Namzaric (memantine 7 mg/ donepezil 10 mg)

front 18

How to apply rivastigmine patch

back 18

apply new patch at the same time each day to the upper or lower back or on the upper arm or chest (do not use the same site within 14 days)
