Terminology

1.

laminectomy

removal of the portion of the vertebral bone; or the lamina

2.

coronary artery dilators

dilate (widen or enlarge) the coronary arteries to increase blood flow to the heart

bone wax

wax (made from beeswax) used to stop bleeding from the bone

4.

hormones

prescribed to replace loss or deficiencies

adrenergic drugs

increase blood pressure and dilates bronchioles, useful in shock anaphylactic reactions

6.

laparoscopy

surgery performed in the abdomen or pelvis through small incisions with the aid of camera/ or scope

7.

arthroscopy

visual exam, diagnosis, and treatment of the interior of a joint through a scope

8.

vitrectomy

surgery to remove some or all of the vitreous humor from the eye

9.

oxytocic

used to contract the uterus to induce or facilitate labor

10.

myomectomy

removal of uterine leiomyomas, also know as fibroids

11.

vitrectomy

surgery to remove some or all of the vitreous humor from the eye

12.

prostatectomy

removal of the prostate

13.

tie

strand of material that is tied around a vessel to occlude the lumen for purpose of hemostasis

14.

methylene blue

a dye (used as a visual indicator in surgical procedures)

15.

myringotomy

incision into the eardrum, to relieve pressure and drain fluid from the inner ear

16.

nephrectomy

surgical removal of the kidney

17.

trocar

surgical instrument; blunt or with 3-sided cutting point enclosed in a tube ( for accessing a body cavity)

18.

ray-tec

x-ray detectable gauze sponge

19.

tonsil sponge

cotton filled gauzed in the shape of a ball, with a long attached taped. Used in the mouth attached or throat for absorption of blood

20.

mandibulectomy

surgical removal of portion of the jaw

21.

keratoplasty

surgical procedure which part or all or all the damage or diseased cornea is replaced by healthy donor corneal tissue

antibiotic drugs

treat or prevent and infection

arthroscopy

visual exam, diagnosis, and treatment of the interior of a joint through a scope

bronchodilator
