circulatory system
consists of the cardiovascular system and lymphatic system.
Blood carries:
oxygen, vitamins, nutrients, antibodies, away waste (co2) and other substances.
5 types of blood vessels:
arteries, capillaries, veins, arterioles, and venules.
directionality of blood pumped by heart:
arteries> arterioles> arterial capillaries> tissue cells> venous capillaries>venules> veins

Heart chambers:
Right/left atrium and right/left ventricle
atrio+ventricul+ar
valves between the atria and ventricles
Aorta
artery where blood leaves heart to travel to body
aort/o
aorta
peri+card+ium
sac made up of double membrane, encloses heart.

-ium

myocardium
heart muscle
coronary
encircling, refers to how coronary arteries encircle heart.
Blood pressure:
pressure exerted by the blood on the wall of an artery
1st bp #:
represents maximum pressure on artery, systolic.
2nd bp # :
amount of pressure that still exists when heart is relaxed, diastolic.
lymphatic system function:
to collect fluid that escapes from the blood capillaries and return it to the circulation.
the lymphatic system depends on:
the muscular contraction because there is no pump action.
the lymphatic system is composed of:
lymph vessels, lymph nodes, lymph(fluid), tonsils, thymus and spleen.
