Manatees ( CNN 10)

Manatee

A large, gentle sea animal that lives in warm water and eats plants.

Pollution

Dirty stuff (like trash or chemicals) that harms air, water, or land.

Seagrass

  • A plant that grows underwater and is food for animals like manatees.

Starvation

When a person or animal doesn’t get enough food and gets very weak or dies.

Algae

  • Slimy green stuff that grows in water. A little is okay, but too much is harmful.

Lagoon

  • A shallow body of water near the coast, kind of like a small bay or pond.

Septic tank

  • A tank underground that holds dirty water and waste from people’s homes.

Phosphorus

  • A chemical in things like soap or fertilizer that can hurt water when too much gets in.

Nitrogen

  • A gas that helps plants grow, but too much in water causes algae to grow too fast.

Emaciated

  • The body of a dead animal.
