fixed lines of reference along which the body, body part, or organ is divided to facilitate viewing (x-ray, CT, MRI)

sagittal plane

divides the body or structure into right and left sections to facilitate viewing

mid sagittal plane

divides the body or structure into equal right and left sections

frontal (coronal) plane

divides the body or structure into anterior and posterior sections to facilitate viewing

transverse (horizontal) plane

divides the body or structure into superior and inferior section to facilitate viewing.
