  2. Fold each page in half along the solid vertical line
  3. Cut out the notecards by cutting along each horizontal dotted line
  4. Optional: Glue, tape or staple the ends of each notecard together
  1. Verify Front of pages is selected for Viewing and print the front of the notecards
  2. Select Back of pages for Viewing and print the back of the notecards
NOTE: Since the back of the pages are printed in reverse order (last page is printed first), keep the pages in the same order as they were after Step 1. Also, be sure to feed the pages in the same direction as you did in Step 1.
  3. Cut out the notecards by cutting along each horizontal and vertical dotted line
To print: Ctrl+PPrint as a list

Proteus vulgaris.

front 2

Urease is produced by some

back 2

microorganisms

front 3

Although other organisms may produce urease, their action on the substrate urea tends to be slower than that seen w/

back 3

Proteus species.

front 4

Other organisms my produce urease, but their action on ______ ____ tends to be slower than that seen with Proteus species.

back 4

substrate urea

front 5

Is urease an enzyme?

back 5

~Yes~

front 6

The urease test serves rapidly to distinguish members of this genus from other...

non lactose-fermenting enteric microorganisms.

front 7

Whay type of enzyme is Urease?

back 7

Hydrolytic

front 8

What is the function of Urease (hydrolytic enzyme)

back 8

Attack nitrogen & carbon bond in amide compounds such as urea & forms the alkaline end product AMMONIA.

front 9

What attacks nitrogen & the carbon bond in amide compounds such as urea & forms the alkaline end product ammonia?

back 9

Urease (which is a hydrolytic enzyme)

front 10

Urease attacks _a___ & the _b_______ in __c______ such as urea & forms the alkaline end product __d_____.

back 10

a. nitrogen
b. carbon bond
c. amide compounds
d. ammonia

front 11

The presence of urease is detectable when the organisms are grown in a urea broth medium containing the pH indicator

back 11

phenol red

front 12

As urea is split into it products, the presence of __a___ creates an alkaline environment that causes the the phenol red to turn a deep __b___

back 12

a. ammonia

front 13

The presence of ammonia turning the phenol red a deep pink is a ___a_____ reaction for the presence of __b_______.

back 13

a. positive
b. urease

front 14

On a urease test the color yellow means

back 14

Negative reaction for the presence of urease.

front 15

On a urease test the color pink means

back 15

Positive reaction for the presence of urease.
