Instructions for Side by Side Printing
  1. Print the notecards
  2. Fold each page in half along the solid vertical line
  3. Cut out the notecards by cutting along each horizontal dotted line
  4. Optional: Glue, tape or staple the ends of each notecard together
  1. Verify Front of pages is selected for Viewing and print the front of the notecards
  2. Select Back of pages for Viewing and print the back of the notecards
NOTE: Since the back of the pages are printed in reverse order (last page is printed first), keep the pages in the same order as they were after Step 1. Also, be sure to feed the pages in the same direction as you did in Step 1.
  3. Cut out the notecards by cutting along each horizontal and vertical dotted line
To print: Ctrl+PPrint as a list

20 notecards = 5 pages (4 cards per page)

plasmolyze OR ---> (shrink,collapse)

front 2

The motility of bacteria with flagella occurs through a series of "runs" and

back 2

"tumbles"

front 3

The term describing bacteria with flagella distributed over the entire surface of the cell is________. When essential nutrients are depleted, some strains of bacteria form, dormant structures that form within cells.

back 3

Peritrichous Endospores

front 4

Many pathogenic (disease-producing) bacteria have ______ that protect them from phagocytosis by host cells.

back 4

Glycocalyx OR capsules

front 5

Endoplamsic reticulum that has ribosomes attached to its outer surface is reffered to as

back 5

rough endoplasmic reticulum OR rough ER

Chemotaxis refers to the ability of microorganisms to

back 6

move toward or away from chemical stimuli

All of the following are found in the cell walls of gram-positive bacteria except

back 7

lipid A

front 8

Gram-negative cells contain a periplasmic space that is

back 8

rich in degradative enzymes

front 9

All of the following are true of the gram-negative outer membrane except

back 9

it contains enzymes for energy synthesis

front 10

A population of bacterial cells has been placed in a very nutrient-poor environment with extremely low concentrations of sugars and amino acids. Which kind of membrane transport becomes a crucial in this environment?

back 10

Active transport

True

front 17

The cell membrane is a fluid structure that allows membrane proteins to move freely.

back 17

True

front 18

Acid-fast bacteria demonstrate unique staining properties because of a special protein layer found in their cell walls.

back 18

False

front 19

Penicillin is more effective against gram-negative bacteria than gram-positive bacteria because it specifically interferes with the synthesis of lipopolysaccharide.

back 19

False
