front 2

Serratus Anterior

back 2

  • Moves scapula upwards, out (abduction) and forward.
  • “boxers muscle”

front 3

Trapezius

back 3

Stabilizes, raises (shrug shoulder), retracts (adduct), rotates scapula. Also extend head and neck

Can help in climbing, throwing, and pushing

Latissimus Dorsi

back 7

Prime mover of arm extension and adduction;

M edially rotates arm at shoulder.

Bringing the arm down in a power stroke (striking a blow, hammering, swimming, and rowing)

front 9

List the Rotator Cuff Muscles

back 9

Supraspinitus

Infraspinitus

Teres Minor

Subscapularis

front 10

Rotator Cuff Muscles

back 10

Main function is to Reinforce the capsule of the shoulder joint to prevent dislocation of the humerus.

Sports that involve a lot of shoulder rotation put these muscles under stress à pitching, bowling, swimming

front 11

Teres Major

back 11

Extends, adducts, and medially rotates humerus
