diffusion

back 1

the movement of particles from an area where their concentration is high to an area where their concentration is low

front 2

osmosis

back 2

the diffusion of water across a cell membrane

front 3

passive transport

back 3

the diffusion of particles through protiens in the cell membrane from areas where the concentration of particles is high to areas where the concentration is low

front 4

active transport

back 4

the movement of particles through protiens in the cell membrane against the direction of diffusion; requires cells to use energy

front 5

endocytosis

back 5

the process in which a cell membrane surronds a particle and encloses it in a vesicle to bring it into the cell

front 6

exocytosis

back 6

the process used to to remove large particles from a cell; during exocytosis, a vesicle containing the particles fuses with the cell membrane
