Instructions for Side by Side Printing
  1. Print the notecards
  2. Fold each page in half along the solid vertical line
  3. Cut out the notecards by cutting along each horizontal dotted line
  4. Optional: Glue, tape or staple the ends of each notecard together
  1. Verify Front of pages is selected for Viewing and print the front of the notecards
  2. Select Back of pages for Viewing and print the back of the notecards
NOTE: Since the back of the pages are printed in reverse order (last page is printed first), keep the pages in the same order as they were after Step 1. Also, be sure to feed the pages in the same direction as you did in Step 1.
  3. Cut out the notecards by cutting along each horizontal and vertical dotted line
To print: Ctrl+PPrint as a list

18 notecards = 5 pages (4 cards per page)

Exercise 25

front 1

Pasteur

back 1

Observed that infecting an animal with Pseudomonas aeruginosa protected the animal against Bacillus anthracis

front 2

Antibiotic

back 2

A substance produced by a microorganism that inhibits other microorganisms

front 3

Alexander Fleming

back 3

Observed antibiosis around a penicillium mold growth on a culture of staphylococci

front 4

Selman Waksman

back 4

Isolated the antibiotic sterptomycin, produced by actinomycete

front 5

Stretomyces Bacteria

back 5

Produce nearly 70% of all antibiotics

front 6

Antimicrobial drugs

back 6

-chemical used internally
-weather natural or synthetic

front 7

Pathogen

back 7

Disease-causing organism

front 8

Disk-diffusion method

back 8

-Disk impregnated with various antimicrobial agents
-Agents diffuse during incubation
-Diffuses from area of high concentration to low

front 9

Zone of inhibition

back 9

-Are around disk that inhibits bacterial growth
-Zone size affected by diffusion rate and growth rate

front 10

Kirby-Bauer test

back 10

-standard test
-test for agar diffusion methods
-uses Mueller-Hinton agar

front 11

Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC)

back 11

determined by testing for bacterial growth in dilutions of the antibiotic in nutrient broth

front 12

Zone of inhibition is measured in

back 12

Millimeters

front 13

Each filter disk placed on agar is impregnated with

back 13

Antibiotic

front 14

Agar used in the Kirby-Bauer test to test the effectiveness of antibiotics

back 14

Muller-Hinton agar plate

front 15

The paper disks have a symbol which represents________ and a number which represents___________

back 15

-Name of antibiotic
-The amount of antibiotic

front 16

The ________ of the zone of inhibition is measured to determine if an organism is susceptible or resistant to a particular antibiotic

back 16

Diameter

front 17

Plates used for disk diffusion method are inoculated with

back 17

a sterile cotton swab

front 18

Why is it important to tap the filter disk gently before incubating

back 18

To prevent it from falling off agar when u flip the plate for incubation and allowing it to stick
