Instructions for Side by Side Printing
  1. Print the notecards
  2. Fold each page in half along the solid vertical line
  3. Cut out the notecards by cutting along each horizontal dotted line
  4. Optional: Glue, tape or staple the ends of each notecard together
  1. Verify Front of pages is selected for Viewing and print the front of the notecards
  2. Select Back of pages for Viewing and print the back of the notecards
NOTE: Since the back of the pages are printed in reverse order (last page is printed first), keep the pages in the same order as they were after Step 1. Also, be sure to feed the pages in the same direction as you did in Step 1.
  3. Cut out the notecards by cutting along each horizontal and vertical dotted line
To print: Ctrl+PPrint as a list

14 notecards = 4 pages (4 cards per page)

SWM Module 12: Wound Care- Adjunctive Modalities QUIZ

front 1

Which is a mechanical adjunct wound therapy used to promote healing in a chronic wound?

back 1

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT)

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) is a mechanical adjunct wound therapy. Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) uses controlled suction to remove fluids and promote tissue growth.

front 2

What type of adjunct wound therapy has living cells that promote tissue regeneration?

Electrical stimulation

Cultured living allografts

Compression therapy

Xenografts

back 2

Cultured living allografts are biological therapies that use living cells to promote tissue regeneration. Cultured living allografts are composed of epidermal cells, dermal cells, or both, supported by a biodegradable matrix.

front 3

How does Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) aid in wound healing?

By increasing tissue oxygenation

By providing a moist wound environment

By delivering electrical currents to the wound

By using heat to stimulate cellular activities

back 3

By providing a moist wound environment

* It provides a moist wound environment, promotes tissue growth, and removes exudate

front 4

Your patient has a low pain tolerance and needs debridement of their wound bed to promote healing. Which is the least painful option?

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT)

Pulsed Lavage with Suction (PLWS)

Low Frequency Ultrasound (LFU)

Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments (HBOT)

back 4

Low Frequency Ultrasound (LFU)

*LFU, especially in non-contact mode, is the least painful option for debridement, making it suitable for patients with low pain tolerance.

front 5

What adjunctive treatment is appropriate for soft tissue radionecrosis and helps promote healing by hyperoxygenation of the blood’s plasma?

Low Frequency Ultrasound (LFU)

Pulsed Lavage with Suction (PLWS)

Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments (HBOT)

Topical oxygen therapy (TOT)

back 5

Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments (HBOT)

* HBOT is approved for the adjunctive treatment of soft tissue radionecrosis, which works by hyperoxygenation of blood’s plasma.

front 6

What are the primary benefits of electrical stimulation (ES) in wound healing?

Enhancing cellular activities and promoting tissue repair

Providing a moist wound environment and removing exudate

Increasing tissue oxygenation and reducing edema

Delivering antimicrobial agents and reducing bacterial load

back 6

Enhancing cellular activities and promoting tissue repair

Electrical stimulation enhances cellular activities, improves blood flow, and reduces inflammation to accelerate tissue repair.

front 7

How does transdermal oxygen therapy (TOT) promote wound healing?

By increasing white blood cell function

By delivering oxygen directly to the wound bed

By removing biofilm

By controlling the wound’s moisture balance

back 7

By delivering oxygen directly to the wound bed

* TOT enhances wound healing by delivering oxygen directly to the wound bed, supporting tissue repair.

front 8

Your patient has a Wagner grade 3 diabetic neuropathic ulcer of their toe wound, additionally, they have decreased perfusion in the lower extremities. Which of the following is the MOST appropriate adjunctive treatment?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT)

Electrical Stimulation (ES)

Pulsed Lavage with Suction (PLWS)

back 8

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

HBOT is most appropriate adjunctive treatment for this type of wound as it increases tissue oxygenation, promoting healing in areas with limited blood flow.

front 9

Which therapy is considered a biological adjunct wound therapy?

Pulsed Lavage with Suction (PLWS)

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Electrical stimulation

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

back 9

PRP -Platelet-Rich Plasma

* PRP uses the person's own platelets to promote healing, making it a biological therapy.

front 10

What is a contraindication for pulsed lavage with suction (PLWS)?

Pressure ulcers

Wounds with uncontrolled bleeding

Venous leg ulcers

Surgical wounds

back 10

Wounds with uncontrolled bleeding

PLWS should not be used in wounds with uncontrolled bleeding due to the risk of exacerbating the condition.

front 11

What is the primary goal of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) in wound care?

To stimulate tissue hypoxia which promotes angiogenesis

To create a moist wound environment and promote autolytic debridement

To increase tissue oxygenation and enhance angiogenesis

To reduce venous pressure and decrease tissue oxygen

back 11

To increase tissue oxygenation and enhance angiogenesis

HBOT increases tissue oxygenation, promotes angiogenesis, and reduces inflammation.

front 12

What is a contraindication for pulsed lavage with suction (PLWS)?

Pressure ulcers

Wounds with uncontrolled bleeding

Venous leg ulcers

Surgical wounds

back 12

Wounds with uncontrolled bleeding

PLWS should not be used in wounds with uncontrolled bleeding due to the risk of exacerbating the condition.

front 13

What is a common contraindication for autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy?

Active infection

Superficial wounds

Chronic ulcers

Diabetic foot ulcers

back 13

Active infection

PRP should not be used on wounds with active infections.

front 14

How does electrical stimulation (ES) reduce wound healing time?

By delivering continuous negative pressure

By increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation

By providing a barrier against infection

By increasing tissue oxygenation through pressurized oxygen

back 14

By increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation

*ES increases blood flow, reduces inflammation, and stimulates cellular activities.
