Opening 2025

front 1

My role as a Sergeant is to be a role model, a supervisor, an overseer. I represent, at all times, the values of the Department and of professional law enforcement standards. I supervise deputies’ actions in the field. I make sure reports are accurate, their actions are properly documented and current legal and policy requirements are met.

I am a Risk Manager, constantly making sure my worksite is free from all forms of discrimination –reducing risk and ensuring the safety culture in our agency. I am a collaborator and a stakeholder of the Seven Pillars of the Sheriff's Office-focusing on community partnerships, understanding our citizens’ fears, concerns, and desires, and develop that trust to do our jobs better.

According to my supervisors, I am an Outstanding mentor, calmed in crisis and a decision maker with sound judgement. I have prepared for this position with the various roles and assignments throughout my career- Major Crimes Bureau detective, Senior deputy, Shift Lead Deputy, Field Training Officer, Community Resource Officer, Storefront supervisor, Racial profiling instructor, Parent Project facilitator, and Public Information Officer among others.

back 2

As a senior deputy, I have been a first line supervisor, mentored and serve as a role model to deputies at both jails and at Camarillo PD- I’ve coordinated contraband searches, delegated their respective roles during investigations of inmate fights and made sure their reports were accurate. As a field training officer, trainees praised my low key but thorough style of teaching. Due to my recognized leadership skills, I’ve had the privilege of training a large majority of deputies for this department in my 32 year career.

Prime examples of their trust in my leadership skills was evident during a shooting incident at a large crowded party in Fillmore and a domestic violence incident where the husband set his wife on fire in Moorpark

As we were handling the initial investigation of the shooting in the unincorporated area of Fillmore, a second unrelated shooting also occurred at another party in the City of Fillmore. Even though there were other deputies already dispatched to this second call, my supervisor trusted my decision making and sent me to act as field supervisor and initiate the incident command system for this event.

In regard to the domestic in Moorpark, my supervisor tasked me the responsibility of coordinating and delegating in-coming personnel to the perimeter to secure the crime scene and served as liaison to the suspect’s family in the hopes of locating the suspect.

back 4

I have prepared for this position by reaching out to various areas of the department. I’ve been assigned to both East County and West County sides and worked, even on a temporary basis, in all the stations of the department. I’ve taken the initiative to be placed in positions of increased responsibility. I’ve taken classes to increase my knowledge ranging from Interview and Interrogation techniques to Child Abuse Investigations. I have completed the Leadership Development Course and the Shift Lead Deputy Program

Currently, as a Major Crimes detective, I am tasked with the highest priority investigations. These investigations not only demand the highest attention to detail, in order to provide justice for those involved, but also to protect our agency from liability.

Finally, even though, it is not directly work related but an example of my leadership abilities, I have even served as president for the English Learners Advisory Committee for my children’s school.
