3.2.3 Food Vacuole Formation: The Role of the Lysosome

front 1

The cellular organelle that contains hydrolytic enzymes for the digestion of cellular waste products and toxins is called a

back 1

lysosome.

front 2

Lysosomes are vesicles formed by the

back 2

Golgi apparatus.

front 3

The role of lysosomes in phagocytosis is to

1. engulf smaller particles.

2. fuse with other vacuoles to aid in the digestion of macromolecules.

3. stimulate host cell death.

4. transport macromolecules to other vacuoles for digestion.

back 3

2. fuse with other vacuoles to aid in the digestion of macromolecules.

front 4

True or false?
Lysosomes are vesicles formed by the ER and Golgi apparatus.

back 4

True

front 5

True or false?

Food vacuoles pinch off of the Golgi apparatus.

back 5

false

Food vacuoles may form from both endocytosis and phagocytosis.

front 6

Lysosomes are membrane-bound organelles that contain

digestive enzymes

front 7

Lysosomes ________ ________ molecules enclosed in food vacuoles
