Introduction

The Week 4 Lab 2: Discovering network devices with PRTG Network Monitor module provides you with the instruction and Server hardware to develop your hands on skills in the defined topics. This module includes the following exercises:

1)Discovering network devices with PRTG Network Monitor

Explanation and Background

In previous lab 1, you installed PRTG Network Monitor. The objective of lab 2 is to discovering network devices and select sensors that will be used in PRTG to monitor the network.

Motivation

Specific areas of performance management will be monitoring with the software installation including capability of collecting statistics from the machines, software, and devices which you configure. In addition, PRTG Network Monitor auto discovers network devices, helping you map out the network. PRTG also retains historical performance data, helping you react to changes.

Lab Diagram

The diagram below shows the network topology of devices that are going to be monitored. This includes a Cisco switch, a router, and four virtual machine hosts. The network devices are described as follows:

a)PLABDM01: Domain Server

b)PLABDC01: Domain Controller Server

c)PLABMON01: Domain Server where PRTG is installed
