What is conduction deafness?
defect in external or middle ear
What is deafness?
inability to hear sound- many things could go wrong
How you simulate conduction deafness?
with cotton ball inserted in hear
What causes conduction deafness?
blockage such as wax, tympanic membrane rupture, infection
What causes sensorineural deafness?
congenital defect, trauma
What are the names of the two test we performed?
Rinne and Weber test
How do you perform the Rinne test?
activate tuning fork
for air conduction: place tuning fork near external acoustic meatus
for bone conduction: place tuning fork on mastoid process
How do you perform the Weber Test?
activate tuning fork and place medially on head.
What does a positive result mean in Rinne Test?
air conduction was stronger
What does a negative result mean in Rinne Test?
bone conduction was stronger
how can you tell if a person has sensorineural deafness?
the Weber test can indicate, only the good ear can hear
how can you find if you have conduction deafness?
with weber test, the louder sound will propagate through the ear with conduction deafness.
