Default settings

Settings that are in place when a program is open such as margins or font.

Title Bar

Shows the name of the program and open doc.

The strip of buttons and icons located above the work area is word 2007

Tabs

The Ribbon is broken down into seven tabs. Each tab has a common purpose and consists of several groups

Groubs

A group is a set of similar commands on a ribbon.

Dialogue Box Launcher

It is the arrow in the bottom right hand corner of some groups. When clicked, it will bring up a dialog box where additional options/changes can be entered

Document

This is what you are typing/what you will print out

Scroll bars

Allows you to view entire workbook by moving it up, down (vertical bar), left or right (horizontal scroll bar)

Help

Located right below the exit button on the Title-bar. Used to search for help when using Microsoft Word

Quick Access Tool Bar -

This customizable tool bar allows you to add frequently used commands. Click on the down arrow at the end of the toolbar to add/remove command buttons or right-click on any command button and choose add to quick access bar

Ruler

Number marks across the too of the page- used for margins, indenting, tab stops, and alignment

View ruler button

allows you to view/hide the rulers

Screen split button

At the top of the vertical scroll bar is a new button. This button that looks like a minus sign that lets you split your screen in two when double-clicked Double-clicking it a second time will unsplit the screen

Tab selector Button

You can easily set tab stops by clicking on the desired position on the ruler. This button allows you to determine which type of tab will be set left aligned, right aligned , and center aligned or decimal tab. Clicking on this button will allow you to change the tab style.

Undo

to remove the effects of previous command

Clipboard

A temporary storage area for a selection that is waiting to be pasted

Cut

CTRL + X Cut a selection and place it on the clipboard

Margins

The white space around the edge of the document

Horizontal Alignment

How text is aligned between the top and bottom margins (page center)

Vertical alignment

How text is aligned between th etop and bottom margins (page center)

Orientation

Determines whether your document will be printed lengthwise

Lengthwise top to bottom (the usual default settings )

Spell Check

Checking for spelling errors- will not find wrong uses of words (their/there) incorrect words (it instead of to) will find words it thinks are misspelled or double words.

Checking for grammatical error

Tesaurus

looking up a word to find another word that means the same or opposite

a document that someone creates as a pattern - it includes all formatting, you just have to add info
