Studies showed that hand washing rates in hospitals were ______________.

40%

2

Normal microbiota are ?

microorganisms that are more or less permanent

3

Transient microbiota are?

microbes only present for days or weeks

4

What stops all bacteria from being removed from your skin?

a layer of oil

5

Soap helps remove the oil on the skin but ________ will maximize the removal of the bacteria.

Scrubbing

6

In the hand washing exercise were you results what you expected and why?

The results were not because with scrubbing and soap I had more bacteria on my hands than with washing alone.

7

What is a surgeon trying to accomplish with a 10 minute scrub followed by an anti-septic?

to remove transient (pathogenic bacteria)and resident microbiota

8

How do normal microbiota and transient microbiota differ?

Normal are more or less permanent microorganisms. While transient are only present for days or weeks and can be pathogenic.

9

If most of the normal microbiota and transient aren't harmful on skin, then why must hands be scrubbed before surgery?

Disease is transferred from one patient to another if the doctor doesn't wash hands and then puts them in your mouth or opens you up for surgery and introduces the microbiota to the internal area.

10

Data from a nurses' hand washing station showed some important data. What was the type of soap that had the least amount of bacteria removed from it? Same data which soap had the most bacteria removed from it?

pump soap with 0%
bar soap 95%
