Mode of EN administration

  • Continuous feeding

  • at a steady rate at 5 - 600 ml / hr
  • 18-24 hr

  1. who can’t tolerate large volume

  • 12-16 hours

  • 4-6 feeding/day

  • using a 60 ml infusion syringe
  • 4-6 times a day (or more)
  • 5-20 minutes
  • normal gastric function > tolerate up to 500 ml / feed

  1. infant to mimic the pattern of breast feeding (physiological)
  2. transition > oral feeding
