Horizontal Axis/x-Axis/Category Axis
The line at the base of a chart that shows categories. Also known as the x-axis or category axis.
Vertical Axis/y-Axis/Value Axis
The vertical line that defines the left edge of a chart and usually measures values. Also called the y-axis, or value axis.
Labels in a chart that identify the information represented by each axis.
In a chart, a sequence of related numbers that shows a trend, such as sales amounts of various months, quarters, or years.
A bar, area, dot, slice, or other symbol in a chart that represents a single data point or value that originates from a worksheet cell.
Area in a chart that explains what the labels, colors, and patterns of the chart represent.
Horizontal and vertical lines connected to the x-axis and y-axis in a chart that make it easier to identify the value of each data series.
The part of a chart contained within the horizontal and vertical axes.
The entire chart and all the chart elements.
An individual component of a chart, such as the chart background or legend that can be moved or resized independently.
A predefined arrangement of chart elements, such as the placement of the legend and the chart title.
