Yellow Perch

Dark vertical bands along the sides, yellow ( color can vary) 6-8 bands

2 dorsal fins, membrane between the two is black

Caudal fin is slightly rounded and forked

3.5 X as long as deep

Unlike walleyes they do not have canines

Canines along lower jaw

Irregular-shaped vertical blotches along the side of the body

Upper half of the body has mottled vertical stripes

Dark blotch on the anterior dorsal fin, no spots on bottom dorsal fin

Marble eye that glows in the dark

White tip on caudal fin

Minnesota State Fish

Very similar to walleye

Dark Spots on front dorsal fin

Black splotches (not reliable characteristic)

No white on bottom caudal fin
