Treatment: Place in position of comfort and apply high-flow oxygen

7

Emphysema

Inflamed airway; not enough gas exchange causes the alveoli to constrict.

Signs and Symptoms: barrel chest, pursed lip breathing, dyspnea on exertion, hypoxia, low oxygen level

Treatment: high-flow oxygen

8

Pneumonia

Infection of the lungs caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi

Signs and Symptoms: coughing, fever, chest pain, severe chills, dyspnea, confusion

Treatments: high-flow oxygen or CPAP, albuterol inhaler if prescribed

Signs and Symptoms: sharp, pinpoint pain, dyspnea, anxiety, cough, tachycardia, tachypnea, dizziness, pain or swelling in the legs, wheezing, hypotension.

Treatment: high-flow oxygen

10

Tuberculosis

Bacterial infection of the lungs

Signs and Symptoms: fever, cough, fatigue, weight loss, dyspnea, productive sputum, bloody sputum, chest pain

Treatment: high-flow oxygen with proper BSI on

Inflammation around and above the epiglottis

Signs and Symptoms: Swelling, sore throat, painful/difficulty swallowing, stridor, drooling

Treatment: high-flow oxygen

12

Pulmonary Edema

Fluid in the lungs

Signs and Symptoms: dyspnea, rapid, shallow respirations, frothy pink sputum at nose and mouth

Treatment: CPAP

13

COPD

Blocking airflow in the lungs

Signs and Symptoms: chronically produce sputum, chronic cough, difficulty expelling air from lungs, barrel chest

Treatment: CPAP and high-flow oxygen

14

Acute Myocardial Infarction(AMI)

Blockage of blood flow to the heart

Signs and Symptoms: sudden onset weakness, nausea, vomiting, chest pain described as squeezing or crushing that doesn't change with each breath, discomfort or pressure in lower jaw, arms, back, abdomen.

Treatment: high-flow oxygen, aspirin, 3 nitroglycerin

Appendicitis

Inflammation of the appendix

Signs and Symptoms: pain in lower right quadrant, nausea, vomiting, fever, chills, rebound tenderness

Treatment: high-flow oxygen

16

Spontaneous Pneumothorax

Air in the chest cavity

Signs and Symptoms: sudden, sharp chest pain, dyspnea, tachycardia, low O2 sat, cyanosis

Treatment: high-flow oxygen, auscultate lung sounds for diminished sounds

17

Cystic Fibrosis

Genetic disease causing thick, sticky mucus to accumulate in the lungs and digestive system

Signs and Symptoms: coughing with mucus, fatigue, pneumonia, fever, cough, dyspnea, loss of appetite

Treatment: high-flow oxygen, and use patients knowledge.

18

Hypoperfusion(Shock)

The body's inability to adequately circulate blood to the body's cells to supply them with oxygen

Signs and Symptoms: cyanotic, cool and clammy skin, pale,

Treatment: high-flow oxygen and keep the patient warm and comfortable

19

Acute Coronary System

Blockage of blood flow to the heart from the coronary artery

Signs and Symptoms: chest pain, difficulty breathing, abnormal pulse/blood pressure.

Treatment: high flow oxygen, nitroglycerin, aspirin if appropriate
