Oxygen

Indication: dyspnea, trauma, chest pain, shock.

Contraindication: None

Mechanism of Action(MOA): reverses hypoxia, increases; arterial oxygen, hemoglobin saturation, and tissue oxygenation

Dosage: 10-15 L/min via nonrebreather, 2-6L/min via nasal cannula

Albuterol

Indication: asthma, difficulty breathing, wheezing

Contraindications: hypersensitivity, tachycardia, myocardial infarction

MOA: stimulates nervous system, causing bronchodilation

Dosage: 2.5 mg via MDI

Epinephrine

Indication: Severe allergic reaction

Contraindications: myocardial infarction, hyperthermia, hypertension

MOA: Dilates passages in the lungs. Constricts blood vessels, causing increased blood pressure. Increases heart rate.

Dosage: 1:1000, 0.3mg in adults, 0.15mg in pediatrics.

Activated Charcoal

Indication: overdose

Contraindications: decreased LOC, overdose of corrosives, caustics or petroleum substances

MOA: absorbs toxic substances in the body

Dosage: 1G/kg

Narcan(Naloxone)

Indication: opiate overdose

Contraindications: narcotic dependent patients

MOA: narcotic antagonist

Dosage: 0.4-2mg

Nitroglycerin

Indications: chest pain due to myocardial infarction, or angina

Contraindications: hypotension, erectile dysfunction medication within the past 24 hours, head injury

MOA: Vasodilator

Dosage: 0.4mg

ASA(Aspirin)

Indications: relief of mild pain, headache, muscle aches and chest pain when considering myocardial infarction

Contraindications: hypersensitivity, recent bleeding

MOA: Reduces fever, pain, and inflammation, chest pain

Dosage: 4 at 81mg, 160-325mg

Acetaminophen(Tylenol)

Indications: relief of mild pain or fever, headache, muscle aches

Contraindications: hypersensitivity

MOA: analgesic and antipyretic

Dosage: 500-1000mg every 4 hrs as needed

Oral Glucose

Indications: conscious patient with hypoglycemia

Contraindications: decreased level of consciousness, unable to follow commands, difficulty swallowing, high blood sugar, nausea, vomiting

MOA: increases blood sugar level

Dosage: 15 grams
