The British practice of taking American sailors from American ships and forcing them to serve in the British navy.
national debt
All the money owed by the federal government to other countries and its own citizens.
neutrality
A refusal to take part in a war between other nations.
nullify
To legally overturn, cancel, or ignore.
partisan
Something or someone that favors one-side of an issue, argument, or cause.
precedent
An earlier event or action that is regarded as an example or guide to be considered in future similar situations.
sedition
Behavior that promotes rebellion or resistance against the government, or that weakens the government.
speculator
A person who risks money in order to make a large profit.
States' Rights
The idea that states should have all powers that the Constitution does not either give to the federal government or specifically deny to the states.
tariff
A tax on goods or items being brought in from other countries.
unconstitutional
Something that is not permitted by the Constitution.
