1

Oxygen Saturation

O2 Sats / SaO2 / SpO2

>94% , 96-98% , maintain >90%; <80% can start to affect BRAIN; below 60% VERY CRITICAL

Might pass out, decreased activity tolerance

Frequent checks, Monitor closely, take frequent rest breaks, Keep supplemental oxygen on hand.

2

Potassium

K

3.5 - 5.0 mEq/L; critical <2.8 >6.0

Hyperkalemia - heart rhythm changes; Hypokalemia - muscle weakness, cramping, abnormal heart rhythms, kidney problems

Too low or too high - not beneficial for pt to participate because muscles are firing the way they should

3

Sodium

Na

135-145 mEq/L

confused lethargic, seizures, death if too high

4

potential hydrogen

pH

<7.35 acidosis; >7.45 alkalosis; 7.4 NORMAL; CRITICAL - <7.10 or More than 7.59

May not be able to participate fully

Fall risk, decreased balance, ability to breathe properly; fatigue cramping

5

Red Blood Cells

RBC

male: 25-35mL/kg; female 20-30mL/kg

Fatigue, SOB, dizziness, weakness, light headedness, increase heartrate,

May fatigue quickly, weakness

6

hemoglobin

HGB

male: 14/17 g/dL; female 12-16 g/dL;

critical < 6.5 /

<8 NO EXERCISE,

8-10 light exercise,

>10 resistive exercise

fatigue, low oxygen levels, fall risk, weakness

fall precautions, gait belt

7

hematocrit

HCT

male: 40-51%; female 36-47%; Critical <20% or >75%

fatigue, low oxygen levels, fall risk, weakness

8

white blood cells

WBC

normal 4.3-10.8 x 10 (9th power) /L;

critical <2000 or more than 50000 mcL

monitor carefully, pt might need breaks, neutropenic precautions prevent cross-contamination

modify alter or d/c treatment

9

prothrombin

PT - INR

Normal 0.8-1.2

don't clot fast enough - make sure pt doesn't fall or cut themselves; clot easily - clot to dislodge and move to heart, lungs, or brain

10

international normalized ratio

INR

NORMAL 0.8 - 1.2;

warrafin 1-3,

<4 continue PT as normal,

4-5 light exercise,

>5 no exercise

11

errythrocyte sedimentation rate

ESR

Normal male 0-17mm/hour; female 1-25 mm/hr

pt could be on antiinflammatory drugs or steriods, limited ROM due to inflammation

12

glucose

Bg

Normal 70-115 mg/dL, Critical < 40 or >500

this can change during therapy, fainting, confused, exercise drop blood sugar

13

creatine kinase

CK

Normal 25-255 ml/L

be careful with pt.

14

platelet

Normal 150-450 x 10 (to the sixth)/L, critical < 20,00 microL

low - below 10,000 NO EXERCISE,

10,000 - 20,000 light exercise,

more than 20,000 resistive exercise,

the higher it is increased risk of blood clot.
