Appendicular Skeleton

126 Bones

2

Pectoral Girlde

- 2 sets of paired ones clavicle & scapula

3

Clavicle

- Collar Bone
- Articulates with sternum medially and the scapula laterally

4

Scapula

- Shoulder blade
- triangular, flattened bone

5

Acromial Process ( Scap. )

Connects to the clavicle posteriorly

6

Caracois Process ( Scap. )

Site for muscle attachement for the upper limb muscles

7

Three Borders

- Superior border
- Medial border
- Lateral / axillary border

8

Glenoid Cavity

Socket that receives the head of humerus located on the lateral border

9

Suprascapular Notch

Allows for nerve passage

10

SITS Muscles

- Supra Spinetus
- Infra Spinetus
- Teres Minor
- Subscapulcius
** these muscle help strengthen the glenohumeral joint **

11

Upper Extremities

- Humerus
- Radius
- Ulna

12

Humerus

Bone of the upper arm

13

Head ( Humerus )

Fits into glenoid cavity of scapula

14

Greater Tubercle ( Humerus )

Large prominence located opposie the head of the humerus

15

Lesser Tubercle ( Humerus )

Small prominenence located opposite the head of humerus

16

Deltoid ( Humerus )

- Located on the shaft of the bine, on the lateral side
- Site of muscle attachment for deltoid muscle

17

Medial Epicondyle ( Humerus )

- Distal end ofthe humerus ( elbow )
- Larger ulnar nerve runs beneathe ( funny bone )

18

Lateral Epicondyle ( Humerus )

- Opposite the medial epicondyle
- Distal end of humerus

19

Trochlea Epicondyle ( Humerus )

- Condyle at the distal end of humerus
- Articulates wih head of ulna

20

Capitulam ( Humerus )

- Condyle at distal end of humerus
- Articulates with head of radius

21

Radius

- Lateral bone of forearms
- Head articulates with capitulam

22

Radial Tuberosity

- Located toward proximal end on the shaft of radius
- Small prominence that is point of attachment for tendons of bicep

23

Styloid Process ( Radius )

- Distal end
- Articulates with carpals of the wrist

24

Ulna

Media bone of the forearm

25

Trochlear Notch ( Ulna )

- Proximal end of ulna
- Articulaes with trochlear and medial epicondyle

26

Styloid Process ( Ulna )

- Distal end of ulna
- Small attachment site for ligaments of wrist

27

Carpals

- Bones of the wrist ( 8 )
- Distal end of radius
- Proximal row : scaphoid, lunate, triqutrial, pisform ( closer to shoulders )
- Distal row : Trapezina, Trapzoid, captate , hemate ( closer to fingers )

28

Metacarpals

- Bones of the hand ( 5 )
- Bones of the palm

29

Phalanges

- Bones of the finger ( 14 )
- 3 Bones per finger EX: thumb
- labeled as prox. mid. dis

30

Pelvic Girdle

- Formed by two coxal hip bones, sacrum, coccyx, all together bony pelvis

31

Coxal Bone

Three Bones

32

Illium

Large, flaring bone whoch akes up most of pelvic girdle

33

Pibis

Located anterior to the acetabulum ( socket for femur )

34

Ischium

Call the sit down bone ; most inferior and posterior portion of pelvic girlde

35

Iliac Crest

Superior border of the ilium

36

Greater Sciatic Notch

Lateral notch on dorsal, inferior aspecr of ilium

37

Lesser Sciatic Notch

Lateral notch on dorsal ischium below the greater sciatic notch

38

Pubic Symphysis

Cartilaginous joint between pubis bones

39

Pubic Arch

Inverted V shape inferior to the pubic symphysis, between right and left rami of pubis and of ischium

40

Acetabulum

Socket which receives the femur

41

Obturator Foreamen

Allows passage of blood vessels and nerves

42

Lower Exremities

Consist of Femur, patella, tibia, and fibula

43

Femur

- Makes up 1/4 of ones height
- Heaviest and stronges bone in the body
- Head is ball like and connects to acetabuilium of hip bone

44

Forea Capitis ( Femur )

Pit of the head; is a notch in the head that allows for ligaments to attach to the acetabulum, the ligament is calle ligamentum teres

45

Greater/Lesser Trochanters ( Femur )

- Located at the junction of shaft and neck of the femur ( prox )
- Both are muscle attachment sites

46

Medial/Lateral Condyles ( Femur )

- Distal end of femur ( post )
- Connects to tibia

47

Patellar Surface ( Femur )

- Distal end of femur ( ant )
- Connects to patella
- Lined with Hyline cartilage

48

Patella

- Knee Cap
- Small triangular bone on the patellar surface of the femur
- Protects the knee joint; prevents hyper extension of leg
- Attached the femur via tendon of the capo muscle
- attached to the tibia via the patella ligament

49

Tibia

- Shinbone
- Larger and more medial of the 2 lower leg bones
- Has medial and lateral condyles located prox. end ; articulates with femur to form knee

50

Tibula Tuberosity

- The site of attachment for the patellar

51

Medial Mellecus

- Located at the distal end of the tibia
- Connects with the bone of the foot
- Medial bulge of the ankle
